A few examples of my work

Customer Education Article
This short, informative piece on electrolysis was written for an esthetician’s website. Providing educational resources is often a great way for businesses to attract new customers and build a foundation of trust with them. This article showcases both my ability to zero in on what’s most important to a particular audience and my skill at distilling specialist knowledge into clear, approachable content.

Brochure
Vox Orbis, a company providing translation services for a variety of industries, needed a tri-fold brochure they could distribute at job fairs and other hiring events. Before writing the needed content, I worked closely with the client to identify the information they wanted to include. And, since the client wanted a simple, clean layout for the final product, I was able to design the brochure myself in Adobe InDesign. (For projects that require more advanced visual design, I can either collaborate with a client’s in-house staff or partner with another independent professional.)

Encyclopedia Entry
One of several articles written for ABC-CLIO’s 21-volume World History Encyclopedia, this piece provides a brief history of adulterated food from approximately 1750 to 1920. It highlights my ability to digest and organize information from diverse sources to create a concise, well-structured narrative. Note the clear, fact-driven writing style.

Financial Independence E-Learning Module
Created in Articulate Storyline 3, this micro-course guides students through an exploration of financial independence and helps them calculate how much money they would need to achieve financial freedom. It employs a number of strategies proven to enhance learning, including storytelling, animation, and interactivity. It also features a professional voice-over (a subcontracted service that I can provide with any e-learning project).

Direct Response Letter Rewrite & Redesign – Before / After
Although the client was off to a strong start with the initial draft of this letter, which introduces healthcare providers in the Toronto area to his clinic’s hypnotherapy services, considerable improvements needed to be made. While the first incarnation sometimes took a negative view of patients, which might have seemed adversarial, the rewrite focuses on the shared goal of both the client and his audience: providing patients with effective treatment options. This common ground encourages a cooperative relationship and helps the client build rapport with his audience. The finished product also features a clearer call to action and is better organized, with a segmented layout for easy reading.

Book Index
This index was created in Adobe InDesign for The Ultimate Allowance by Elisabeth Donati, founder of Creative Wealth International. Although kept short to match the book’s 200-page length, the index I constructed is thorough and accurate. It includes three levels of organization, as well as cross-listing for greater functionality.

Article Edit – Before / With Track Changes Enabled / After
This feature story on the architectural highlights of California’s Napa Valley appeared in the Spring/Summer 2010 issue of Touring & Tasting. It’s an excellent example of a medium-level edit: punctuation and grammar have been corrected, but changes in word choice and restructuring suggestions have also been made. As you can see, I always strive to keep my editorial comments constructive yet friendly.

Want to see something else?

This is just a small sampling of the work I’ve completed over the years. If you’re looking for an example of a type of project you don’t see here, let me know—I may have something from a past client that fits the bill.
